Fibre Speed Upgrade Relief FAQs

Afrihost have partnered with various Fibre providers to help our Fibre clients in these challenging times. We want to upgrade your Fibre line speed for free for the next couple of months.

We want to answer some of the questions you may have regarding the upgrade.

Which Fibre providers are offering a free speed upgrade for Afrihost clients?

If you are with any of these providers and Afrihost, you qualify and will be upgraded.

  • Century City Connect
  • Evotel
  • Frogfoot
  • Link Africa
  • MetroFibre
  • Openserve
  • SADV
  • Vumatel / Vumatel Aerial
  • Vuma Reach

Please see below for more details on each provider and the speed your line will be upgraded to.

Will I be charged for the higher line speed?

No. You’ll get the speed upgrade during the relief period at no extra cost to you.

When will my line speed be upgraded?

Fibre line speed upgrades will automatically start on 01 April 2020 and will be completed by 08 April 2020.

Please note that it may take some time for the upgrades to be completed and you may not see the upgraded speeds right away. In most cases, upgrades will start with smaller packages and then move to the larger packages.

What happens at the end of the relief period?

Your Fibre line will revert back to its original speed. Please refer to the relevant Fibre providers below for details on when the relief period ends.

Can I stay on the higher line speed after the relief period?

If you would like a faster Fibre line speed after the incentive period ends, you can upgrade your line speed in ClientZone. Please note, however, that you’ll have to pay the full price of your new Fibre package.

Can I change my line speed DURING the relief period?

You can request a package change via ClientZone during the relief period.

  • Upgrades will only be scheduled for the end of the relevant relief period.
  • Downgrades will be processed at the beginning of the following month.

If you wish to upgrade to a speed higher than the relief speed offered by the Fibre provider, this will then be charged for relatively as it is not part of the incentive program.

Upgrade your line speed. If you require assistance with upgrading or downgrading your fibre package please read more on How to change your Fibre package in this article.

I am a new client, do I qualify for the free upgrade?

If your fibre line was active when the speed changes took place you will automatically be put on an upgraded speed.

If you are newly signed-up and your line only became active after the upgrades started on the 1st of April 2020 and you would like the upgraded speed, a request will need to be sent to our Fibre Ops team on fibre@afrihost.com

Will I get the free upgrade if I sign up after the upgrades have been completed?

Some Fibre providers such as Vumatel and Link Africa will automatically include new sign-ups in the relief program and should be upgraded within 7 working days from activation. Other providers with new sign up will need to request the upgrade with each provider. A request can be sent to our Fibre Ops team on fibre@afrihost.com

How to check the speed of your port:

This is how you can check the port speed of your Windows computer.

    • Select the Windows start icon at the bottom left of your screen.
    • Click on the gear cog icon to go to Settings.

    • Select Network & Internet.

    • When on the status page, click on ‘Change adapter options ‘below.

    • Then double click on the connected ethernet adapter from the listed available adapters.

    • The dialogue box will show the information required to see the speed of the port for line speed above 100mbps.

    Troubleshooting steps for speed issues:

    1. Ensure that you do qualify for the relief incentive and are not part of any of the exclusions listed for each provider below and in the newsroom article.
    2. Please try turn off your fibre router and ONT/CPE (The fibre device on the wall) for a few seconds and then back on again.
    3. Run a speed test. The best way to get the most accurate results would be to connect directly to your Fibre ONT/CPE box on the wall with an ethernet cable connected to your laptop/computer and run the speed test.
    4. Please take screenshots of the speed test results and send them to fibre@afrihost.com, where our technicians can analyse the data and log a fault on your behalf.

How to do a speed test. If you require further assistance please see the various How to perform a speed test and How to do a speed test for a Vumatel line.

If you qualified as part of the relief incentive but are not receiving the upgraded speed, some troubleshooting will need to be done.

If your new speed has been upgraded to a line speed above 100mbps please keep in mind that your equipment such as router etc may be a factor. Please ensure your laptop has a 1gbps port and the cable being used to run the speed test is CAT5E or higher.
