How to set up a D-Link 825 Fibre Router for a PPPoE connection

What is PPPoE? PPPoE means Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet and is a network protocol that connects via an ISP and requires a username and password.

Follow the steps below to set up the newer D-Link 825 router for PPPoE:

  • Open your internet browser. Enter the routers IP address: 192.168.0.1 into the address bar and press enter.

Tip: The routers IP address can be found under the router.

  • Log in to the router.

Username: ‘admin’.

Password: Enter the password displayed on the sticker under the router or the password if one has been created for you.

  • Click ‘Login’.

  • If it is your first time logging into the router you will be required to go through the wizard to configure the router.
  • Click ‘Start’ to start the ‘Internet Connection Setup Wizard’.
  • Confirm if your language is English and click ‘Yes’ if it is.
  • Click ‘Continue’ to continue with the set-up wizard.

  • Under Connection Method, from the drop-down menu select ‘Wired Connection’

  • Under Work Mode, from the drop-down menu select ‘Router’.
  • Click ‘Next’.

  • Under Connection Type, from the drop-down menu select ‘PPPoE’

  • Enter your account PPPoE Username and Password.
  • Click ‘Next’.

Where do I get my PPPoE username and password?

  • Log into ClientZone.
  • Click on the ‘Connectivity’ tab.
  • Select your relevant Fibre package in the right-hand side.
  • Click on the ‘View Product’ button.
  • Your username is displayed at the top of the panel, below your package.
  • To get your password, click on the ‘Access Details’ button.
  • Click ‘Reset Password’.
  • In the success pop-up window, copy your newly generated password, save it and click ‘Okay’.

  • You will now need to configure the 2.4Ghz wireless network. Enter a Network Name and secure Password of your choice.
  • Click ‘Next’.

  • Then you will need to configure the 5Ghz wireless network. Enter the Network Name and a secure Password of your choice and click ‘Next’.

  • Do not enable IPTV, click ‘Next’.
  • Do not enable VoIP, click ‘Next’.
  • You will be required to set up a new password for the router if it is the first time logging in and click ‘Next’.

  • Please note the summary of your settings or select ‘Save Configuration File’ to download the configuration backup file.
  • Click ‘Apply’ to save these settings.

How to create a strong password: It is important to create a strong and secure password. Use a minimum of 10 characters. Include uppercase, lowercase, numbers and use at least one special character (eg: =~_{} @^&>*) in the password. Do not include a username or your name in the password.

Follow the steps below to set up the older D-Link 825 router for PPPoE:

  • Log into the router. Open your internet browser. Enter the routers IP address: 192.168.0.1 into the address bar and press enter.

  • Enter the routers username and password.
  • Click ‘Login’.

TIP: The password can be found on the sticker under the router or is a different password if a new one has been created.

  • On the home page of the router select the ‘SETUP’ tab from the top menu bar.
  • Ensure you are on ‘INTERNET’ from the menu options on the left-hand side.
  • Select ‘Internet Connection Setup Wizard’.

  • A ‘Welcome to the Set Up Wizard’ screen will appear, click ‘Next’.

  • Step 1 will request you to enter a new administrator password to access the router in the future. Enter your new password and click ‘Next’.

  • Step 2 will require you to select the correct time zone of your location. From the drop-down menu select the time zone. South Africa is GMT+2. Then click ‘Next’.

  • Step 3 will require you to select the correct configuration for your internet connection. Select ‘Username / Password Connection (PPPoE)’ and click ‘Next’.

  • Insert your PPPoE username and password and click ’Next’.

  • The Setup is now complete, select ‘Connect’ to save the settings.

  • Your settings will be saved and are now all set up and you are ready for Pure Internet Joy.

If you do not connect immediately please reboot the router.
