What to do when you have reached your disk quota

You may have received an email with the following warning:

‘Warning: This account has reached the maximum disk usage quota’.

This could mean one of two things:

  1. You have exceeded the disk quota usage that has been assigned to your cPanel account.
  2. You have exceeded the file storage limit for your email account.

The most common is email file usage limit exceeded and it may appear as if emails have disappeared.

File limits are placed on shared and reseller hosting accounts to keep our systems up and running optimally. Hosting a large number of files on a shared web server can cause issues for the server’s file system and adversely affect the performance of the backup system when it comes to both backing up and restoring data.

You can view your current usage in cPanel.
  1. Go to ClientZone.
  2. Log in to ClientZone with your username and password.
  3. Select the ‘Hosting’ tab.
  4. Under the shared hosting section, select the domain name.
  5. Click on the ‘Website Manager’ button.
  6. Select the ‘Log into Website Manager’ button.
  7. On the right-hand side, scroll down, Under ‘Statistics’ you will find an overview of your usage information.
You have exceeded the disk usage quota that has been assigned to your cPanel account.

In the event that hosting disk quota is full, you will have to upgrade to a higher package.

  • Log Into ClientZone.
  • Select ‘Hosting’ tab.
  • Select the domain to wish to upgrade.
  • Select ‘Edit package’.
  • Choose your new package from the drop-down menu under the Change to Another Package section.
Above you can see your current hosting package.
  • Once done, click on ‘Change Package’ to confirm your package upgrade.
You have exceeded the file usage limit for your email account.

In the event that only your mailbox is full, you can allocate more space.

  • Log Into ClientZone.
  • Select ‘Hosting’ tab.
  • Select ‘Manage Email’.
  • In the cPanel Email accounts section select ‘Manage’ on the desired mailbox.
  • Under Storage, increase the Allocated Storage Space from the dropdown or select Unlimited.
  • Scroll down and Click on ‘Update Email Settings’ to save the changes.

Remember to keep an eye on your disk space usage.

Change mailbox size.
