How to activate your Vumatel Fibre connection

Once your line has been installed, you are only one step away from enjoying pure Internet joy. Connect up your router and activation should happen automatically and you should have internet access within 2 hours.

If activation does not happen automatically you may need to do it manually.

In this article we will look at the following:
IMPORTANT! 

If you have an existing installation and would like to transfer the line over to Afrihost as your ISP, please read How to migrate your Fibre line from another provider to Afrihost for further information.

1. Below are examples of each FNO’s ONT device:

Depending on the area, Vuma will either bury the fibre cables under the ground in a trench or make use of above-ground poles to install the fibre infrastructure. In an area where the cables are buried underground the Fibre Network Operator (FNO) is referred to as Vuma, Vuma Trench, or Vuma Core. In an area where Vuma uses above-ground poles, the FNO is referred to as Vuma Aerial.

3. How to activate your fibre connection.

2.1 How will I know if my Vuma Trench fibre line is ready for activation?

The technician will provision the line after the installation is complete. If you have the grey ONT device, lookout for these lights before following the activation instructions:

  • Power light = green LED.
  • F light = yellow LED.
  • 1 = yellow LED.

If you have the white Raycore ONT device, look out for these lights before following the activation instructions:

  • Power light = blue LED.
  • FX = orange LED.
  • LAN1 = orange LED.
2.2 How will I know if my Vuma Aerial fibre line is ready for activation?

Once the installation is complete, your Vuma Aerial fibre will take approximately 48 hours to be provisioned remotely. Look out for the following lights before following the activation instructions:

  • Power = green LED.
  • PON = green LED.
  • LAN1 = green LED.

  • Paste the Object / VT number in the ‘Object Number’ field.
  • Click on ‘Submit Object Number’ to confirm.

Give it at least an hour then you will be good to go.

What does provisioning mean? 

Line provisioning is the process of preparing and equipping a network to allow it to provide new services.

Which port does the LAN cable go to? 

The LAN cable must be connected to LAN1 always. The other side of the cable must be connected to the WAN/ Internet port of the router.

3. Follow these steps to activate your Fibre connection
  • Connect to your fibre network via WiFi or LAN cable.
Important! 

For Vuma Aerial, please make sure you are not connected to any other network besides the fibre network. If you are activating using your mobile phone, the mobile data must be turned off. You can connect to any network to activate a Vuma Trench line.

  • Navigate to the fibre activation page, you may be directed to this page automatically when first accessing the internet.
  • Enter the account holder’s cellphone number and then click ‘Activate’.
  • An OTP will be sent to the cell number.
  • Enter the OTP and click ‘Activate’.
  • You have successfully activated your fibre package.

You will receive an SMS and an e-mail confirming that your fibre package has been activated.

You can now browse the internet.

Our WiFi routers come preconfigured and there should be no need to reconfigure the router. However, if you need to or are using your own router, please make sure the connection type is set to Dynamic IP or DHCP. No PPPoE username and password is required for this connection type.
